Test My Microbiome

Overview

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that mainly affects the face, causing redness, visible blood vessels, and sometimes acne-like bumps. It affects an estimated 5–10% of adults, more common in fair-skinned individuals. Rosacea can worsen over time without management, and in some cases cause thickened skin (especially on the nose).

Common Misunderstandings

It’s often mistaken for sunburn, acne, or alcohol-related flushing. Many people with rosacea feel embarrassed and avoid social events during flare-ups. Triggers vary widely — from sun exposure to hot drinks — adding to frustration.

How is Rosacea Linked to Your Microbiome?

  • Studies have found higher numbers of Demodex mites (part of the skin microbiome) on rosacea-affected skin, which may trigger immune reactions¹.
  • Gut microbiome changes, including small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), have been linked to rosacea; treating SIBO can improve symptoms in some patients².
  • Reduced skin microbiome diversity may increase susceptibility to inflammation and environmental triggers.

Symptoms

Persistent facial redness

Small visible blood vessels

Acne-like bumps or pustules

Flushing episodes

Eye irritation (ocular rosacea) in some cases

The Microbiome Clinic™

Our treatment approach for Rosacea includes:

Gut Microbiome Test

The Gut Microbiome Test identifies imbalances and pathogens in the gut flora to explain symptoms and guide precise, personalised treatment and prevention.

Targeted Antimicrobial Strategies

Antibiotics and plant-based/pharmaceutical antimicrobials (where appropriate) to reduce the overgrown population of unwanted bacteria in the gut and skin.

Probiotics and Prebiotics

Targeted probiotics and prebiotics are introduced slowly to restore balance and biodiversity of microbes in the gut and skin without fuelling overgrowth.

Individualised Nutrition Plans

Recommendations based on the latest science to enhance the effectiveness of the Repair-4™ and maintenance programs prescribed by your doctor.
